About
The Forgotten Room is Michael Schaffer's 2026 horror adventure, his first, written in 6502 assembly with Merlin for Hidden Sector Software. Jacob is closing a furniture store for the night when a flickering hallway light leads him past an old armoire into a shifting maze of forgotten rooms. Something is still moving furniture in the dark. You explore HGR rooms, use objects, and learn what happened to the Porter and his trapped family. The last choice picks one of two endings.
He designed it on the HGR page 1 and page 2 screens in the Mystery House line. The color fringing is on purpose, so it looks best on a color composite or monochrome monitor and is a poor fit for RGB. It needs an Apple II, II Plus, or IIe with 64K or more. The shop listing also names the IIc and IIGS. It ships as a bootable ProDOS HDV.
This first game is freeware and is the start of a series. The later games assume you played this one. Get the free download from Vintage Apple Computer of Illinois. This archive does not host the disk. Also not Glitch Games' 2016 PC and Mac game of the same name.
