| Developers | Free Tools Association |
| RAM Requirement | 768K |
| Control | None (sit back) |
| Other Requirements | Original is floppy-only. A 2016 patch replaces the loader with SmartPort calls so it runs from a CFFA3000 or CoGS volume. |
| System 6 Compatible | No (boots its own loader) |
| Hard Drive Installable | Patched version only |
| Release Status | Freeware |
Verified bootable floppy image. Runs from the emulator's built-in 3.5" drive (this one reads the disk directly, so it will not run from a hard drive or CoGS volume), or download the disk image (0.8 MB).
About
FTA's most polished production. In their own words, Modulae started as a pile of independent routines written with no particular use in mind, and at some point everything fit together. The result is the demo most people picture when they hear "FTA": filled 3D vector objects, the famous pulsing sphere and shaded balls, overscan scrollers and a soundtrack that still gets quoted. Its 3D content was well ahead of anything else on the machine in 1990.
Like Nucleus and the XMAS demo it talks to the IWM disk controller directly, so the original image only runs from a real 3.5" drive or an emulated one. Boot in browser below uses the floppy drive. For hard drives there is a community patch (ballmerpeak.org, 2016) that swaps the track loader for a slot-independent SmartPort loader; it was tested on a CFFA3000 and a ROM 3 and is the "Modulae (patched)" volume in the CoGS catalog. In our MAME tests the patched image dropped into the monitor on the CFFA2 emulation, so treat it as real-hardware-first.
