About

GS FLY is a GS/OS application built for the IIGS 40th anniversary, September 15, 2026. Twelve days after HHMI Janelia and Google Research published MaleCNS v1.0, the first complete fruit fly central-nervous-system connectome, this program loads 18 real neurons from that map onto a 2.8 MHz IIgs, rotates each skeleton in 3D with depth shading, and keeps a live benchmark of how fast the 65C816 is chewing through the data. Every number on the screen comes from the dataset or the tick counter.

With a CoGS card the GS opens TLS to a2cogs.com and streams the neuron block through the card. Without a card it loads the same block from disk. The viewer paints one neuron at a time. Space goes to the next, A toggles a 12 second auto-advance, M mutes the music, U unmutes, Esc quits. The soundtrack is Low Orbit Bright, written for this demo, played on the Ensoniq through NinjaTrackerPlus.

Two images ship. gsfly800.2mg is an 800K ProDOS floppy you mount under any GS/OS and run GSFLY. gsfly.2mg is a 32 MB GS/OS 6.0.4 boot volume with GSFLY installed. The browser emulator boots that volume. Source and releases live at github.com/rperissi/iigs-fly.
