About

Webifi's IIGS Doom port, from Doom8088, rewritten in 65816. The view is 160x168 with double-wide pixels, dithered 16-color palettes, textured walls, and flat floors and ceilings. On an emulated 8 MB GS with a 12 MHz ZipGS the author measured about 4 frames a second. Without an accelerator it is seconds per frame. Community reports say it now loads and runs on real hardware at those predicted rates.

v1.5 adds IIe / J13 keyboard support, faster mouse turn, AppleSqueezer GS detection in the benchmark, and options to turn off wall textures or simplify grates. v1.4 made music and sound louder and clearer, fixed left and right on stereo cards, and picked the default view size from machine speed. Earlier 1.x releases chased audio glitches and a freeze when starting a new game.

Needs 4 MB RAM (8 MB recommended) and either an AppleSqueezer GS or a 12 MHz ZipGS or TransWarp GS with at least 32 KB cache. Releases include four 800K floppies, a ProDOS hard disk image, and a BlueSCSI image. Doom is an id Software title. This archive does not host the disks. Get v1.5 from GitHub. A browser-play note lives on the r/AppleIIGS thread.
